Students sit for the 11+ examinations in the beginning of Year 6. Some start training for this entrance examinations from Year 4. These exams do not happen in all geographical areas in the UK. Clearing this exam is a crucial (but not decisive) element of a child getting admissions in the Grammar schools. 12+ exams are given by those who do not clear the 11+ or are giving it after they are in secondary school.
